Synod 2021 -2023

Pope Francis has invited every diocese worldwide to participate in the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops. The theme of this Synod is “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission.”

The diocesan phase of this Synod process is integral to the structure of the 2023 assembly. Synodality, the idea that the Church is a communion of persons journeying together and that every member of the Body of Christ has a right and role in determining how the Church carries out her mission, is both the content and the process.

Every member of the faithful is invited and encouraged to participate in listening sessions that constitute the local consultation phase of this process. These local consultations will be synthesized into a report which will be shared with the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and the bishops assembled in Synod in October 2023.
