Anointing of the Sick

By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ.-- CCC:1499

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is the anointing which is given by a priest to those who are seriously ill, advanced in years, or anticipating serious surgery. The effects of this Sacrament are to comfort and strengthen those who are ill, to forgive their sins, and to restore their health if this is God’s will, or to prepare them for eternal life.

For non-emergencies, such as scheduled surgeries or hospitalization, the Pastor or visiting priests are available after any Mass, including weekday Masses, to administer this Sacrament.
